Hair Party

Hey everyone: tomorrow at 12:00 pm CST we are shaving my head. We are going to have a few friends and family over in the back yard and broadcast over zoom.

The Why

Masked selfie with Able Two!

We are doing it, because my head often feels like it’s fallen asleep (tingling sensation) and rumor has it this will help with that pain. It’s also one little thing I can control before it happens. Another reason is my Breasties suggested it. They’re a support group of amazing young women going through breast cancer or have gone through breast cancer before. They suggested doing it as a little party with support and to get pictures to remind myself how strong I am on the bad days. My aunt graciously helped set up a photographer for the occasion and I’m so glad I’ll have this professionally documented to share.

At the same time, I’m really anxious. When I was first diagnosed, I thought I’d wear it like a badge. Now I’m just a little sad about it. I didn’t think I’d be emotional over it. But I cried in Nobbies today buying some balloons, so I could use all the support I can get!

You are loved; you are admired. Allow yourself to be sad–then stand up straight and wear your badge of honor–not flaunt it–just wear it with honor and pride in your self! Picture those of us who have gone through treatment cocooning you–in front of you, beside you, behind you.

Love you my brave granddaughter. You continue to amaze me. You and I did many travels when you were a child. Now I’m on this journey with you.

Celebrate the ritual! There will be a time when you think “Wow! I never realized how much time I spent on my hair. Maybe I’ll keep my head shaved and just toss on a wig or hat when I go somewhere.” Really! Also, you won’t need to shave your legs or arms. It’s freeing, in a way, to have no hair. And then it grows back. If you’re lucky like me, it doesn’t grow back fully on your legs and you rarely need to shave. ?

Just reading this…
Be brave & keep your head high. All of your warriors got your back. Wear a nice pink or red lipstick so everyone can see your beautiful smile & boho scarves. Prayers
