Hi warriors and new friends!
Welcome to the blog. I’ll be doing my best to document all of our travels here. If you’re more interested in a quick snapshot of where we are, check out the calendar page. If you are itching for daily content check out my instagram.

Why Nomads?
Lots of reasons. For starters, I’ve always had a strong desire to travel and explore the world. I had actually already started traveling in my work as a travel nurse, but then cancer derailed that. Now, the timing is lined up really well. I’m 3 years out from my diagnosis date, and I’m relatively healthy. My health insurance and pay from working as a school nurse run through August 2024. After which, I’ll just bite the bullet and pay COBRA (which is still cheaper than paying another out of pocket maximum). Mitch can work from anywhere as long as he has access to the internet. I could continue, but you get the point—it just felt like the stars were finally aligning in our favor now. Maybe chemo broke the thousand-year-old family curse?
Jokes aside, another reason is that I want to do more in the cancer community. Working as a school nurse, I don’t get a lot of chosen time off because it’s all on the school’s schedule. Unfortunately, this schedule doesn’t match up with all the cool events and conferences I’ve wanted to attend. Taking a few months to travel and attend as much as possible will help me be able to prioritize which ones I like the best for future job-planning purposes.
As always, there is also my guiding light—gram gram. Recently, I got her amazing writings off her computer where she wrote all about her travels. Her regret was not doing it sooner or on a larger scale like her siblings did. That was all the reassurance I needed to know this is the right thing.
Finally (and one of the biggest reasons), I’m a bit lost. Maybe it’s a mid-life crisis. Post cancer crisis. I don’t know. I just know that I don’t know what’s next for me. I also know and have full faith that the universe, God, or insert whatever your beliefs are, will guide the way and show me the path. Opportunity will open up on this journey.
What About Your Home?
We rented, so we just gave up our lease. All of our things went into storage.
Do You Have an RV?
No, we don’t. We will be traveling in our Tesla Model 3. We will stay at a mix of AirBnBs, hotels, and with family and friends. Eventually, we will be camping once we’ve run out of money and friends.
Won’t You Have to Stop & Charge All The Time?
Honestly, we really don’t stop that much. In fact, sometimes we have to stop to use the restroom before we even need to charge! For reference, to get from Omaha to Colorado Springs (about 600 miles), we could do it in about 8 hours to include 2–3 stops for charging that take about 20-30 minutes a piece. It all depends on external factors like weather, and internal factors like AC or heat usage that affect the efficiency of the battery.
How Do You Know Where A Charger Is?
The Tesla (or Remy as we call her) is super cool, because she does all the hard work for us. We enter our destination into the map and the Tesla calculates everything else based on her specific needs/locations of chargers. It literally tells us where to stop, how much battery we will have left when we arrive at the stop, and how long the charge will take.
While we’re driving to the charging stop, one of us normally looks it up to see what is located at the stop. We’ve stopped at fancy truck stops with multiple eateries, restaurants, outlet malls, grocery stores, and even a deserted parking lot in Kansas.
What About Oliver?
He’s coming with!
What About Your Doctors?
I had appointments with all of them in May. I have appointments with them again in August. Then I’ll most likely find new ones closer to our end destination.
What’s The End Destination?
Right now, we are looking at landing in Colorado Springs in September. That is unless we both love traveling so much that we stay on the road indefinitely.
Great Q & A!!!
Do you need a house to stop at in Alameda, CA?
Wish you all the luck on your travels.
